The number of decks listed in the instructions for the number of players is a recommendation. We like to play with extra cards to increase the possibilities of card combinations and to have more colors of cards, but with 5 players as an example, it may seem like you have a lot of extra cards. Each deck actually has enough cards for up to 3 players. So if you want, you can play with 1 deck for 3 players, 2 decks for up to 6 players, 3 decks for up to 9 players and 4 decks for up to 12 players.

The starting player for the round gets to sweep the Sweep card to the waste pile and play whatever they would like.

The next player to the left will restart the play pile as part of their last turn.

Yes, you do have to play it. If it’s lower than or equal to the top card on the pile or there’s no top card on the pile, you can add other matching cards to it from either your hand or other faceup cards. If it’s higher than the top card on the play pile, you’ll need to take the entire play pile into your hand and decide what to play next.

No. But when you end up playing that card, you can play the other cards with it.

No, four (4) of a kind is the most you can play, which causes a sweep to occur. After sweeping, you can play any other cards you have of the same value if you want.

Yes, if the next person hasn’t played yet, feel free to.

Any Sweep cards you have left unplayed at the end of a round count as 50 points, which is the highest value card. But because it can be played at any time on any numbered card, it’s effectively the lowest card.

No, a sweep card is played on its own.

If the next player hasn’t gone yet, you can add more cards and restate the count.

No. Once you’ve played cards and stated a count, you can’t change to a different numbered card. If you haven’t stated the final count of your cards yet, you can still change it.

Yes, all of the other players get one last turn. This is your chance to get rid of as many points as possible. Be sure to play any Sweep cards you’re aware of and possibly play a card that’s shall facedown.

You technically can play with 2 players, but the feedback we've received is that the game isn't as much fun with only 2 players. But feel free to try for yourself if you want.

Burum™ is currently in production. It is expected to be available at the end of February 2025. At that time, it will be available on our website and Amazon.com.

In the Marshallese language that BURUM comes from, a “U” is pronounced like you would in the word “tutu”. So thinking of it like “booroom” might be a good way to remember it. But if you’d rather pronounce it more like “buhroom”, the sound a motorcycle makes or “burr-um”, you’re welcome to.

Yes, Burum™ means "sweep" in the Marshallese language, which is spoken in the Marshall Islands. It is also derived from the Welsh for broom. As sweeping plays a key role in the game and Burum™ is modified from a game we knew as sweep/swept, we thought it would be fun to play on both meanings when we named the game.

The colors used for the different decks and game box have significance for our family and are the school colors of the High Schools we attended in Cedar Rapids, IA and the Colleges we attended.

Burum™ is the first game from Tylee Tisdale™, but we don't plan on it being the last. We've got some ideas so stay tuned. If you have an idea and would like to partner with us, let us know.

Tylee is the family name of our mother's, mother's, mother's parents. Tisdale is the family name of our father's, mother's, mother's parents.
